Draft Grade — Bears
Overall C+
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB+
The phones sank the Bears this weekend: C+.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.

Travis has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

The Colson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Hit on Jared Verse and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In slot 1 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick30 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In pick No. 30 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick62 Rnd2 Cooper DeJean
They took Cooper DeJean at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jackson Powers-Johnson
A premium they did not need to pay, Jackson Powers-Johnson a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick105 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
A quiet steal in No. 105: Dominick Puni for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jordan Travis
They talked themselves into Jordan Travis at Round 4, Pick 9, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick128 Rnd4 Tykee Smith
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tykee Smith. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick142 Rnd5 Junior Colson
The board fumbled Junior Colson all the way to the 142nd overall pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick174 Rnd5 Tyler Batty
They paid sticker price for Tyler Batty in No. 174, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick183 Rnd6 Jo'Quavious Marks
By-the-book stuff, Jo'Quavious Marks at slot 183 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick226 Rnd7 Brevyn Spann-Ford
They will replay Brevyn Spann-Ford at the 226th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
