Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
Williams is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: D-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 47 spots for Darius Robinson, and value like that does not grow back. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Getting Coleman where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the 1st overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
You do not let a wide receiver like Keon Coleman reach the 43rd pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick74
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at No. 74 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley at Round 3, Pick 11 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick111
Rnd4
Beau Brade
Beau Brade at pick No. 111 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick143
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
A reach for Braelon Allen in pick 143; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
