Grand theft in No. 60: the Bears steal Allen and grade out a B. The real work happened on the phones. The Bears fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. The bottom line is a respectable B.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Allen. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Reaching for Stribling left real value on the table behind him.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick57
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 25 is lovely value for the safety. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick60
Rnd2
CJ Allen
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 60 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Pick89
Rnd3
Markel Bell
A reach on Markel Bell in slot 89; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick129
Rnd4
Gracen Halton
A reach for Gracen Halton in pick 129; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick239
Rnd7
De'Zhaun Stribling
De'Zhaun Stribling in the 239th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick241
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
