Doc DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears

The Bears cashed the board's mistake on Moore: B-. Thirty-one other rooms let Rod Moore slide, and the Bears were the ones holding the card at the 105th overall pick. Highway robbery. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Powers-Johnson left real value on the table behind him.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In No. 1 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick5
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In slot 5 they get a premier pass rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A reach for Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 69; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick105
Rnd4
Rod Moore
You do not let a safety like Rod Moore reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis at the 128th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick142
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
They took Nehemiah Pritchett at par in Round 5, Pick 6, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick183
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 183, where Jack Nelson graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick226
Rnd7
Omar Speights
Omar Speights in the 226th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
