Draft Grade — Texans
Overall F
ValueD+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
Conviction outran the board for the Texans, and it cost them: F.

The Texans torched the value chart for James Williams, taking him 49 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. The board sounded every alarm, and the F is the fallout.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with quarterback still staring back at them.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Chris Braswell
They liked Chris Braswell enough to skip the value, taking him in the 23rd overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
They reached a country mile for T'Vondre Sweat at No. 36, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick40 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cooper Beebe in pick No. 40, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick78 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
They paid sticker price for Roman Wilson in pick 78, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick81 Rnd3 James Williams
James Williams in the 81st pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick123 Rnd4 Javon Foster
By-the-book stuff, Javon Foster at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick126 Rnd4 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson at pick No. 126 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick174 Rnd5 Jawhar Jordan
They reached into another round for Jawhar Jordan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick245 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
Fair-plus on Eric Gentry, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
