Celtics13 DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

A franchise passer in McCarthy headlines a C+ weekend for the Bears. The Bears went off the board in a big way for Cody Simon, 145 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
J.J. McCarthy is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Sainristil at that price is a win they earned.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 1st overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
J.J. McCarthy
In the 9th pick they get the face of the franchise, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
Pick75
Rnd3
Donovan Edwards
They reached into another round for Donovan Edwards, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick110
Rnd4
Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent at pick 110 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick125
Rnd4
Cody Simon
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cody Simon in slot 125, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick146
Rnd5
Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil at Round 5, Pick 10 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick186
Rnd6
Clarence Lewis
Clarence Lewis at Round 6, Pick 11 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick232
Rnd7
Erick All
Value said wait; Erick All in pick No. 232 says they were not listening. A minor itch, scratched.
