Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB+
Williams is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: B+.

Start where it matters. The Bears took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Hadden to cover a lot of smaller sins.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In slot 2 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
By-the-book stuff, Rome Odunze at pick No. 9 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick40 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at No. 40 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75 Rnd3 Rod Moore
Rod Moore at Round 3, Pick 11 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick102 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher in the 102nd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick110 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
They took Tommy Eichenberg at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick125 Rnd4 Gabriel Murphy
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Gabriel Murphy at pick 125 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick146 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
A slide stopped in the 146th overall pick, with Kamal Hadden worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick186 Rnd6 Aki Ogunbiyi
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 6 slot with a little surplus value in Aki Ogunbiyi. The roster fit checks out.
Pick232 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry at pick No. 232 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
