Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a D- to match.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bears would have aced it. Mason Fairchild at the Round 6 slot is 109 spots clear of where he belonged. Put together, it is a D-.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Caleb Williams gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get the arm they will build around at fair value.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In No. 9 they get a No. 1 receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
They jumped the gun on T'Vondre Sweat, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75 Rnd3 Blake Corum
No edge and no loss on Blake Corum in slot 75; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick111 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
A quiet steal in the 111th pick: Dominick Puni for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Pick123 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
A clean, defensible pick in pick 123 with a little surplus value in Kris Abrams-Draine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick189 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
A reach for De'Corian Clark in the Round 6 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick190 Rnd6 Mason Fairchild
They talked themselves into Mason Fairchild at No. 190, and the board did not agree. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick201 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
They will replay Michael Barrett at the 201st pick for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick221 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
They left a pile of value on the table to take Matthew Jones this early at pick No. 221. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick241 Rnd7 Blake Watson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Blake Watson in the 241st overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
