Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB-
Fitzgerald should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a B. Somebody in pick 233 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Ryan Fitzgerald, the No. 108 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The Monheim pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In Round 1, Pick 10 they get juice off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in pick No. 39 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick41
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
They will replay Nick Emmanwori at No. 41 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick72
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
You do not let a running back like Kaleb Johnson reach the 72nd overall pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147
Rnd5
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at slot 147 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jonah Monheim
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jonah Monheim in pick 193, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick233
Rnd7
Ryan Fitzgerald
Steal is underselling it; Ryan Fitzgerald at the 233rd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick240
Rnd7
Jared Wilson
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
