Williams is the plan now, and the Bears grade out a D. Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Samson Ebukam deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
That Chambers pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
No drama and no debate, Caleb Williams went about where he belonged in pick 1. The roster fit checks out.
Pick15
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick28
Rnd1
Keon Coleman
In No. 28 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick46
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
They took Tyler Guyton at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Rod Moore
A clean, defensible pick in the 75th overall pick with a little surplus value in Rod Moore. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick91
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Roman Wilson at slot 91, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick110
Rnd4
Cooper Beebe
No edge and no loss on Cooper Beebe in pick No. 110; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick127
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
Good price on Khyree Jackson in the 127th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick146
Rnd5
Mike Sainristil
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Mike Sainristil at the 146th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick186
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Nothing to complain about; Christian Jones went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick232
Rnd7
Steele Chambers
A slide stopped in pick No. 232, with Steele Chambers worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick235
Rnd7
Maurice Smith
Maurice Smith in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
