Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureC+
Wheatley should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a D-.

The phones were a trap the Bears kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Lyons left real value on the table behind him.

However the rest shakes out, Wheatley at that price is a win they earned.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Kayden McDonald
In slot 25 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
A tidy little value on Anthony Hill Jr. in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick40 Rnd2 Zion Young
A reach for Zion Young in pick No. 40; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick89 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley in pick 89 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick129 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson in the 129th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick163 Rnd5 Kobe Baynes
No edge and no loss on Kobe Baynes in No. 163; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick239 Rnd7 Alex Harkey
A reach on Alex Harkey in slot 239; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jamari Lyons
Jamari Lyons in pick No. 241 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
