Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB
The Bears finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D+.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.

So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They will need Van Pran to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Mahogany pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In slot 1 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Pick12 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In the 12th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
No edge and no loss on Chop Robinson in Round 2, Pick 2; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75 Rnd3 T'Vondre Sweat
Nice patience on T'Vondre Sweat, who had no business lasting to No. 75. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick76 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
They jumped the gun on Sedrick Van Pran, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick104 Rnd4 Christian Mahogany
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Christian Mahogany in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick111 Rnd4 Mason McCormick
A tidy bit of business in the 111th pick, where Mason McCormick graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick114 Rnd4 Max Melton
By-the-book stuff, Max Melton at pick No. 114 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick123 Rnd4 Cole Bishop
A straight-up fair deal on Cole Bishop at the 123rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick143 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden at slot 143 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
