The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and Slaughter: B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jake Slaughter got past him. The 49ers do not have to explain a thing at No. 92.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy slipping to Round 2, Pick 26 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
Somehow Jake Slaughter was still sitting there in the 92nd overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick127
Rnd4
Deion Burks
Deion Burks at No. 127 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133
Rnd4
Hezekiah Masses
Hezekiah Masses at the 133rd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
