Draft Grade — Chiefs

Klare should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a D-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Max Klare, the No. 58 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 121. Put together, it is a D-.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Jermod McCoy
A tidy bit of business in Round 1, Pick 18, where Jermod McCoy graded well above the range. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick21 Rnd1 T.J. Parker
No edge and no loss on T.J. Parker in slot 21; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick40 Rnd2 Christen Miller
Christen Miller is a better player than pick No. 40 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick74 Rnd3 Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt in the 74th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick82 Rnd3 Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price at the 82nd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick121 Rnd4 Max Klare
Taking Max Klare in No. 121 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick146 Rnd5 Kyle Louis
Kyle Louis in pick 146 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick176 Rnd5 Josh Moten
By-the-book stuff, Josh Moten at pick 176 squarely in line with his ranking. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
