Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The 49ers bled value on every deal, hence the D-.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the 49ers shredded theirs for Nathaniel Watson. He came off 45 spots early, and the room will hear about it. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. McClellan at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In the 13th pick they get a problem off the edge at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick31 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In pick 31 they get a blindside protector, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63 Rnd2 Ruke Orhorhoro
By-the-book stuff, Ruke Orhorhoro at pick No. 63 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94 Rnd3 Mason McCormick
No drama and no debate, Mason McCormick went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 31. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick98 Rnd3 Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in the 98th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick113 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
They liked Kris Abrams-Draine enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 113. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick132 Rnd4 Malik Washington
Malik Washington at No. 132 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176 Rnd6 Christian Jones
Value said wait; Christian Jones in pick 176 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick209 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
Good price on JD Bertrand in slot 209, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214 Rnd6 Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson at the 214th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick215 Rnd6 Isaiah Williams
Isaiah Williams in the Round 6 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jase McClellan
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 29, with Jase McClellan worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
