Loren Wahlin DRAFTING FOR THEPackers

Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesB+
FutureB-
The Packers let Edwards fall and pounced. Final grade: B. You build a draft on nights like this. Donovan Edwards had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Packers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They are betting Thornton Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside, outstanding value to boot.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jihaad Campbell at the 54th overall pick is the proof. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick62
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
A premium they did not need to pay, Maxwell Hairston a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick87
Rnd3
Deone Walker
They took Deone Walker at par in the 87th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Jared Wilson at pick No. 97, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jaylin Lane
A tidy bit of business in No. 134, where Jaylin Lane graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick159
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A wild overpay on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 159, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick198
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
KeAndre Lambert-Smith at slot 198 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick237
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick250
Rnd7
Hunter Wohler
The board had cheaper options than Hunter Wohler at pick No. 250, and it noticed. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
