FutureA+
Marks should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B-. The Patriots lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Getting Marks where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In the 14th pick they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick69
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at the Round 3 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick77
Rnd3
Kyle Kennard
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kyle Kennard. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick106
Rnd4
Xavier Restrepo
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Restrepo at pick No. 106 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick117
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Zy Alexander in Round 4, Pick 15, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick144
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at slot 144 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick217
Rnd7
Woody Marks
Woody Marks in No. 217 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick220
Rnd7
Karene Reid
Karene Reid is a better player than the 220th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick238
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
The board had Carson Vinson higher than pick 238, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
