FutureA
The phones sank the Browns this weekend: C+. The Browns put a flag in the ground for Trey Zuhn III, 58 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Hartford to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
So much rides on Carnell Tate that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In pick No. 3 they get a matchup problem out wide, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick27
Rnd1
Isaiah World
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaeden Roberts. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick104
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling in pick 104 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick141
Rnd5
Iapani Laloulu
They talked themselves into Iapani Laloulu at No. 141, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick142
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol at the 142nd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in pick No. 148 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick177
Rnd5
Trey Zuhn III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trey Zuhn III this early at slot 177. The roster fit checks out.
Pick210
Rnd6
Lawson Luckie
Lawson Luckie at the 210th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick248
Rnd7
Malik Hartford
The board had Malik Hartford higher than the Round 7 slot, and the safety fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
