FutureB
The Bears found their guy under center in Williams: B+. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Bears committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Every board in the league had Simpson lower, and that gap is the story.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the 2nd overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick17
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
In the 17th pick they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick30
Rnd1
Xavier Legette
In slot 30 they get a matchup problem out wide, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at Round 2, Pick 11 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick46
Rnd2
Ricky Pearsall
A premium they did not need to pay, Ricky Pearsall a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick74
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. at No. 74 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick89
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
They went early on Zak Zinter in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick109
Rnd4
Jaylin Simpson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylin Simpson in pick 109, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick122
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
They talked themselves into Tommy Eichenberg at No. 122, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Pick168
Rnd5
Isaiah Williams
Isaiah Williams at the 168th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick179
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jared Wiley this early at the 179th overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick220
Rnd6
KT Leveston
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for KT Leveston. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick235
Rnd7
Michael Barrett
They paid sticker price for Michael Barrett in pick No. 235, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
