Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueD- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Chargers a B-.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jay Higgins at pick 55 is 148 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Getting Howard where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Jack Sawyer
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55 Rnd2 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at Round 2, Pick 23 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick86 Rnd3 Jackson Slater
A real head-scratcher, Jackson Slater in No. 86 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick125 Rnd4 Bradyn Swinson
They will replay Bradyn Swinson at slot 125 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick158 Rnd5 Jalen Travis
Jalen Travis at the 158th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick199 Rnd6 Will Howard
Taking Will Howard in the 199th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick209 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
Steal is underselling it; Jaylen Reed at the 209th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick214 Rnd6 John Williams
A big swing on John Williams at the 214th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick256 Rnd7 Theo Wease Jr.
Theo Wease Jr. slid further than he should have, and slot 256 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
