Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
C+
ValueF
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Browns won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: C+. The Browns clearly saw something nobody else did in Garrett Greene, taking him 298 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
White III at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Spending an early pick on specialist with cornerback and running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
JT Tuimoloau
A wild overpay on JT Tuimoloau in the Round 1 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick62
Rnd2
Thor Griffith
A big swing on Thor Griffith at Round 2, Pick 30, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick67
Rnd3
Garrett Greene
A real head-scratcher, Garrett Greene in No. 67 is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick91
Rnd3
Maliq Carr
Maliq Carr in the 91st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick94
Rnd3
Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. in pick 94 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick104
Rnd4
James Burnip
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 104 on James Burnip with cornerback and running back unsolved.
Pick124
Rnd4
Ethan Downs
Ethan Downs at Round 4, Pick 22 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick136
Rnd4
Tyler Baron
Value said wait; Tyler Baron in No. 136 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick179
Rnd6
Alijah Clark
They talked themselves into Alijah Clark at the 179th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick192
Rnd6
Brian Ugwu
They reached a country mile for Brian Ugwu at pick No. 192, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick200
Rnd6
Khris Bogle
They reached into another round for Khris Bogle, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick216
Rnd6
Teddye Buchanan
They left a pile of value on the table to take Teddye Buchanan this early at the 216th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick255
Rnd7
Ricky White III
The board fumbled Ricky White III all the way to pick 255, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
