Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA+
The Commanders cashed the board's mistake on Allen: A-.

The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Braelon Allen, pick 161, roughly 50 picks past where he belonged. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Every board in the league had Mahogany lower, and that gap is the story. It is not that Kinchens is a bad player; it is that the Commanders had louder needs to answer first.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Brock Bowers and all.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
In the 8th pick they get a red-zone target to build around. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In No. 27 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick50 Rnd2 Kamari Lassiter
A premium they did not need to pay, Kamari Lassiter a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Tyler Nubin
A quiet steal in pick No. 53: Tyler Nubin for less than the market said. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick67 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Christian Mahogany well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick100 Rnd3 Kamren Kinchens
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots to take Kamren Kinchens, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick109 Rnd4 Tyrone Tracy Jr.
They paid a round early for Tyrone Tracy Jr. in pick 109, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick138 Rnd5 Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick139 Rnd5 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at pick 139 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick161 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in the 161st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick222 Rnd7 Evan Williams
Evan Williams at No. 222 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
