Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA- FutureB-
The Cowboys let Williams fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Cameron Williams had no business being available in the 117th overall pick, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

The Hamilton pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren at the 39th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick41 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Steal is underselling it; Kenneth Grant at Round 2, Pick 9 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick44 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Circle this one: Jalon Walker at No. 44 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick51 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Booker in the 51st overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick76 Rnd3 Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte at pick 76 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick117 Rnd4 Cameron Williams
They will replay Cameron Williams at pick No. 117 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick122 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
They barely believed it either: Kevin Winston Jr. still on the board at slot 122. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick149 Rnd5 Bhayshul Tuten
By-the-book stuff, Bhayshul Tuten at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick171 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
A straight-up fair deal on Kyle Williams at the 171st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick174 Rnd5 RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey at slot 174 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick204 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
No edge and no loss on Jay Higgins in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick211 Rnd6 Phil Mafah
They went early on Phil Mafah in pick 211, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick232 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton at pick No. 232 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
