FutureD
Larceny in the 85th pick lands the Cowboys a F, Knight Jr. and all. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Cowboys, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
The Williams pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Getting Knight Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In slot 20 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Value with a capital V on Jalon Walker in pick No. 39, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick42
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
They let Omarion Hampton come to them and pounced at Round 2, Pick 10. The roster fit checks out.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at pick 44 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick51
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
A big swing on Tate Ratledge at No. 51, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jaylin Noel
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylin Noel. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick85
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. in pick 85 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick110
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton at pick No. 110 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick149
Rnd5
Kyle Williams
They reached a country mile for Kyle Williams at slot 149, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick171
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
A slide stopped in the 171st pick, with Bhayshul Tuten worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick174
Rnd5
Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick204
Rnd6
Jason Marshall Jr.
No edge and no loss on Jason Marshall Jr. in the 204th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick208
Rnd6
Thomas Fidone II
A reasonable price with a little left over, Thomas Fidone II in No. 208. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick211
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray at Round 6, Pick 35 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick239
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at pick No. 239 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton at the 247th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
