Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Cowboys.

Nobody else had Khalid Duke anywhere near the 216th overall pick. The Cowboys did, by 91 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. That Liufau pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Tyler Guyton
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick56 Rnd2 Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes in pick 56 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick87 Rnd3 Ray Davis
A reach for Ray Davis in the 87th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick95 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
They went early on Zak Zinter in No. 95, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick128 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
Good price on Brenden Rice in the 128th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick131 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
They paid up for Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 131 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick133 Rnd4 McKinnley Jackson
They talked themselves into McKinnley Jackson at the 133rd pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick174 Rnd5 Marist Liufau
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Marist Liufau at No. 174. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick216 Rnd6 Khalid Duke
Khalid Duke at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick233 Rnd7 JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand is a better player than pick 233 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick244 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones at the 244th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
