Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB
The Cowboys found their guy under center in Maye: D.

The Cowboys lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.

Whatever Drake Maye becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. However the rest shakes out, Hardy at that price is a win they earned.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Brooks pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In No. 4 they get the arm they will build around at fair value.
Pick13 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get juice off the edge. More want than need.
Pick24 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In slot 24 they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick27 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 27th pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jonathon Brooks
They paid up for Jonathon Brooks at the Round 2 slot when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick49 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in pick No. 49 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick56 Rnd2 Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter at pick 56 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick66 Rnd3 Zach Frazier
Nothing to complain about; Zach Frazier went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick71 Rnd3 Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75 Rnd3 Kamren Kinchens
No edge and no loss on Kamren Kinchens in pick 75; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick87 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
Somehow Patrick Paul was still sitting there in the 87th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick142 Rnd5 Tommy Eichenberg
They paid sticker price for Tommy Eichenberg in Round 5, Pick 6, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick173 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 173 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick231 Rnd7 Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy in slot 231 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick242 Rnd7 Trey Knox
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trey Knox in No. 242. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
