FutureB-
The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on McCoy: B. You build a draft on nights like this. Jermod McCoy had no business being available in the 225th pick, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
The Hemby pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. With tight end unsolved, spending premium capital on edge rusher is the choice that costs them. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Rueben Bain Jr.
They read the board right and Rueben Bain Jr. was the payoff at slot 12. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick56
Rnd2
Spencer Fano
Spencer Fano at No. 56 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick81
Rnd3
David Bailey
A curious use of the 81st overall pick. Tight end needed the pick; an edge rusher in David Bailey did not.
Pick88
Rnd3
Brian Parker II
A slide stopped in pick No. 88, with Brian Parker II worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Mansoor Delane
Mansoor Delane at Round 3, Pick 36 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick112
Rnd4
Fernando Mendoza
You do not let a quarterback like Fernando Mendoza reach the 112th pick and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Pick124
Rnd4
Michael Taaffe
Somehow Michael Taaffe was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick150
Rnd5
Sonny Styles
Steal is underselling it; Sonny Styles at pick 150 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick177
Rnd5
Kayden McDonald
They robbed the room for Kayden McDonald here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jordyn Tyson
They barely believed it either: Jordyn Tyson still on the board at the 215th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick221
Rnd7
Roman Hemby
A big swing on Roman Hemby at the 221st pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
Pick225
Rnd7
Jermod McCoy
Taking Jermod McCoy in pick 225 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
