Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
A franchise passer in Sanders headlines a D- weekend for the Cowboys. Thirty-one other rooms let Jake Majors slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at No. 209. Highway robbery. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
The whole projection now runs through Shedeur Sanders; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Campbell pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick12
Rnd1
Jihaad Campbell
In pick 12 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at slot 33 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick44
Rnd2
Matthew Golden
They paid sticker price for Matthew Golden in Round 2, Pick 12, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick76
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
A tidy little value on Andrew Mukuba in the 76th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at No. 148 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick168
Rnd5
Deontae Lawson
The board fumbled Deontae Lawson all the way to the 168th pick, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick170
Rnd5
Shemar Turner
Shemar Turner at pick No. 170 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick173
Rnd5
Zane Durant
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zane Durant. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick186
Rnd6
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in pick 186 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jake Majors
Jake Majors in the 209th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick247
Rnd7
Terrance Ferguson
Steal is underselling it; Terrance Ferguson at slot 247 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
