Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The phones sank the Cowboys this weekend: D.

The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 168th overall pick on Phillip Webb a full 122 spots early.

The Higgins steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.

A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
In slot 12 they get a true top target at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
They robbed the room for Omarion Hampton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick76 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins is a better player than No. 76 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick110 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at pick 110 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick168 Rnd5 Phillip Webb
They reached a country mile for Phillip Webb at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick170 Rnd5 Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith at Round 5, Pick 33 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171 Rnd5 Chris Paul Jr.
Taking Chris Paul Jr. in slot 171 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick187 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in the 187th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick209 Rnd6 Addison West
They barely believed it either: Addison West still on the board at the 209th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick247 Rnd7 Joey Slackman
Joey Slackman at pick No. 247 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
