Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Cowboys a B-.

The Cowboys bet big and early on Quincy Riley, 30 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Jeanty pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In pick 12 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, outstanding value to boot.
Pick44 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
This one needs a full-page explanation: Maxwell Hairston in slot 44, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick76 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
A reach for Andrew Mukuba in Round 3, Pick 12; a little patience would have been rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick118 Rnd4 Sai'vion Jones
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Sai'vion Jones. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick149 Rnd5 Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at No. 171 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick211 Rnd6 Simeon Barrow Jr.
A premium they did not need to pay, Simeon Barrow Jr. a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
Pick247 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
They took Teddye Buchanan at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
