FutureB-
Henderson should have been long gone. The Cowboys pounced, and earned a B. The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: TreVeyon Henderson, pick No. 170, roughly 109 picks past where he belonged.
They will need Griffith to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a bell-cow for the offense, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
Value with a capital V on T.J. Sanders in pick No. 44, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick48
Rnd2
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild in No. 48 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick78
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
No drama and no debate, Deontae Lawson went about where he belonged in pick 78. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick148
Rnd5
Simeon Barrow Jr.
They reached a country mile for Simeon Barrow Jr. at the 148th pick, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick168
Rnd5
Antwane Wells Jr.
No edge and no loss on Antwane Wells Jr. in slot 168; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick170
Rnd5
TreVeyon Henderson
They barely believed it either: TreVeyon Henderson still on the board at the 170th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jalen Travis
Jalen Travis at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick189
Rnd6
Thor Griffith
A wild overpay on Thor Griffith in the 189th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at the 209th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes in No. 239 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick248
Rnd7
Elijah Arroyo
They will replay Elijah Arroyo at pick 248 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
