Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueA- NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on McKinstry: B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Kool-Aid McKinstry tumbling to the Cowboys in Round 2, Pick 24 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Zinter left real value on the table behind him. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Marvin Harrison Jr. at Round 1, Pick 24 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick56 Rnd2 Kool-Aid McKinstry
Kool-Aid McKinstry at No. 56 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick87 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
They paid a round early for Zak Zinter in the 87th pick, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick124 Rnd4 Tyrice Knight
Nice patience on Tyrice Knight, who had no business lasting to pick 124. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174 Rnd5 Jaylan Ford
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylan Ford. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick212 Rnd6 Myles Jones
They took Myles Jones at par in pick No. 212, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick245 Rnd7 Maurice Smith
They paid sticker price for Maurice Smith in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
