FutureB
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Cowboys a B. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Roman Hemby, 68 picks early at pick 200. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They banked enough surplus on Anderson to cover a lot of smaller sins. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In pick No. 20 they get an island corner at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick30
Rnd1
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
In the Round 1 slot they get an enforcer at safety, a steep price for the projection. Need was not the driver here.
Pick38
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
Value said wait; Akheem Mesidor in the 38th overall pick says they were not listening. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick107
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
By-the-book stuff, D'Angelo Ponds at the 107th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick112
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch at No. 112 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick130
Rnd4
Jaishawn Barham
Somehow Jaishawn Barham was still sitting there in slot 130, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick150
Rnd5
Red Murdock
Red Murdock in No. 150 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick177
Rnd5
Aaron Anderson
You do not let a wide receiver like Aaron Anderson reach pick No. 177 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick200
Rnd6
Roman Hemby
They reached into another round for Roman Hemby, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick215
Rnd6
Tony Rojas
A big swing on Tony Rojas at the 215th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick221
Rnd7
Keaten Wade
They talked themselves into Keaten Wade at slot 221, and the board did not agree. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick225
Rnd7
Haynes King
They went early on Haynes King in the 225th overall pick, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
