2024 DRAFTING FOR THECowboys

Draft Grade — Cowboys

The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on Hart: B. The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Cam Hart fell into pick 173. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They will need Gould to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Nate Wiggins
In No. 24 they get an island corner, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick56
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 24, where J.J. McCarthy graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick87
Rnd3
Junior Colson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Junior Colson at the 87th overall pick is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick125
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
Good price on Ainias Smith in slot 125, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick173
Rnd5
Cam Hart
A cornerback of that caliber at the 173rd pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
You do not let a linebacker like Jaylan Ford reach pick 213 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick242
Rnd7
Anthony Gould
This one needs a full-page explanation: Anthony Gould in pick No. 242, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
