Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB+ TradesC+ FutureB-
The Cowboys won the night they stopped Giddens from sliding. Grade: B.

Call it larceny. DJ Giddens sat on the board until pick 249, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front. The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick44 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
A quiet steal in pick No. 44: Omarion Hampton for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick76 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
They barely believed it either: Alfred Collins still on the board at the 76th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick150 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at No. 150 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick152 Rnd5 Jacob Parrish
Steal is underselling it; Jacob Parrish at the 152nd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick170 Rnd5 Vernon Broughton
Taking Vernon Broughton in Round 5, Pick 31 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick172 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough in pick 172 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick174 Rnd5 Chase Lundt
Nice patience on Chase Lundt, who had no business lasting to slot 174. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick190 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
The board had Jay Higgins higher than the 190th pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick211 Rnd6 Jack Nelson
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jack Nelson in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249 Rnd7 DJ Giddens
DJ Giddens in slot 249 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
