Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA- FutureB-
The Raiders answered their biggest question with Mendoza. Grade: B.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Fernando Mendoza is the Raiders' quarterback, full stop. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

Nowakowski has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Golday. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In slot 1 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick47 Rnd2 D'Angelo Ponds
They paid sticker price for D'Angelo Ponds in pick 47, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Omar Cooper Jr. at the 67th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick78 Rnd3 Jake Golday
Taking Jake Golday in No. 78 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick102 Rnd4 Treydan Stukes
Value with a capital V on Treydan Stukes in Round 4, Pick 2, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jalon Kilgore in the Round 4 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick134 Rnd4 Chris McClellan
Nothing to complain about; Chris McClellan went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick174 Rnd5 Bryce Boettcher
A tidy little value on Bryce Boettcher in pick No. 174, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick180 Rnd6 Zxavian Harris
A wild overpay on Zxavian Harris in the 180th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick183 Rnd6 VJ Payne
VJ Payne at slot 183 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick219 Rnd7 Riley Nowakowski
Value said wait; Riley Nowakowski in pick No. 219 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
