Quarterback settled, Williams in the fold, and a D for the Bears. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Braiden McGregor in slot 146. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. That Burton pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
