DutchNugget DRAFTING FOR THECommanders
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
B

FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Commanders for Sturdivant: B. Thirty-one other rooms let J. Michael Sturdivant slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at the 185th overall pick. Highway robbery. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Williams reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Joe Alt
A reasonable price with a little left over, Joe Alt in pick No. 7. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick36
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson in No. 36 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick39
Rnd2
Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin in the 39th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jonathon Brooks
Somehow Jonathon Brooks was still sitting there in pick 71, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick100
Rnd3
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick107
Rnd4
James Williams
They jumped the gun on James Williams, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick144
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
No edge and no loss on Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 5, Pick 8; it is a wash and a sensible one. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick185
Rnd6
J. Michael Sturdivant
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 185 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick228
Rnd7
Erick All
Good price on Erick All in pick No. 228, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
