Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Patriots.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Patriots took Keaten Wade a full 70 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Kilgore. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Chris Brazzell II
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick62 Rnd2 Max Klare
A reasonable price with a little left over, Max Klare in the 62nd pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick94 Rnd3 Carter Smith
Carter Smith slid further than he should have, and No. 94 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jalon Kilgore at pick 125 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick130 Rnd4 Skyler Gill-Howard
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Skyler Gill-Howard. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick168 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at slot 168 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick189 Rnd6 Kalil Alexander
Kalil Alexander at pick No. 189 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick200 Rnd6 Jordan White
A big swing on Jordan White at Round 6, Pick 21, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick207 Rnd6 Isaiah Jatta
They read the board right and Isaiah Jatta was the payoff at pick 207. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick209 Rnd6 Keaten Wade
Value said wait; Keaten Wade in No. 209 says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick246 Rnd7 Rueben Owens II
Rueben Owens II at the 246th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. The roster fit checks out.
