Draft Grade — Eagles
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Eagles a B.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Eagles took Michael Barrett a full 30 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Jared Verse
Nice patience on Jared Verse, who had no business lasting to slot 25. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick57 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
A slide stopped in the 57th pick, with T.J. Tampa worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick59 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 27 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick90 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Nothing to complain about; Christian Mahogany went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick97 Rnd3 Will Shipley
Will Shipley in the 97th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick137 Rnd5 Ainias Smith
A wild overpay on Ainias Smith in pick 137, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick157 Rnd5 Trey Knox
Value said wait; Trey Knox in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick162 Rnd5 Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett at Round 5, Pick 26 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick172 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
The board fumbled Joe Milton III all the way to pick No. 172, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick178 Rnd6 Ben Bywater
Ben Bywater at pick 178 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick246 Rnd7 Carson Steele
They paid up for Carson Steele at slot 246 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
