The Eagles did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. The war room fell hard for Will Shipley, and it showed at No. 137: 28 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
It is not that Melton is a bad player; it is that the Eagles had louder needs to answer first. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Odunze pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In slot 32 they get a weapon on the perimeter at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick51
Rnd2
Nate Wiggins
Nate Wiggins slipping to pick 51 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick64
Rnd2
Jack Sawyer
Jack Sawyer at Round 2, Pick 32 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick97
Rnd3
Max Melton
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went defensive back with Max Melton while clear needs at interior defensive lineman and safety sat open.
Pick137
Rnd5
Will Shipley
A wild overpay on Will Shipley in the 137th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick147
Rnd5
Cameron Ward
By-the-book stuff, Cameron Ward at No. 147 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick178
Rnd6
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius in Round 6, Pick 3 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick184
Rnd6
Brevyn Spann-Ford
Brevyn Spann-Ford in the 184th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick227
Rnd7
Jalen Catalon
Jalen Catalon at the 227th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick253
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry in pick 253 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
