Draft Grade — Eagles
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesA FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Eagles, and a B to prove it.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Eagles started one anyway for Oronde Gadsden II, 29 picks ahead of schedule. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

Getting King where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Edgerrin Cooper
In slot 32 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. More want than need.
Pick51 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Troy Franklin in pick No. 51. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick67 Rnd3 Kalen King
Circle this one: Kalen King at Round 3, Pick 3 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick97 Rnd3 Will Shipley
No drama and no debate, Will Shipley went about where he belonged in the 97th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick137 Rnd5 Gabriel Murphy
They let Gabriel Murphy come to them and pounced at pick 137. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick172 Rnd5 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at the Round 5 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick178 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson at the 181st overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick224 Rnd7 Luke Reimer
They jumped the gun on Luke Reimer, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick253 Rnd7 Tyreek Chappell
Tyreek Chappell slipping to No. 253 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
