The Bears did not so much draft Brevyn Spann-Ford as overpay for him, 44 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

Michael Penix Jr. is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McClellan.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
