Marc DRAFTING FOR THECommanders

Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureA+
Travis should have been long gone. The Commanders pounced, and earned a C. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Commanders shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.
Getting Travis where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Jordan Morgan
In the 19th pick they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
No drama and no debate, Chop Robinson went about where he belonged in No. 36. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick40
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
A slide stopped in slot 40, with Emeka Egbuka worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick72
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in pick No. 72, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick73
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes at pick 73 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick100
Rnd3
Tykee Smith
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Tykee Smith. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick102
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
They let Zak Zinter come to them and pounced at the 102nd pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick111
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Davis in pick No. 111. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick141
Rnd5
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in slot 141 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick167
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
They barely believed it either: Jordan Travis still on the board at Round 5, Pick 31. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick181
Rnd6
Kaden Prather
Nothing to complain about; Kaden Prather went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick223
Rnd7
Akheem Mesidor
A straight-up fair deal on Akheem Mesidor at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
