Maye is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: A-. The Bears spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
Wilson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
The Cooper value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In No. 5 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick 36 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick37
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims at the 37th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick69
Rnd3
Ruke Orhorhoro
They paid sticker price for Ruke Orhorhoro in Round 3, Pick 5, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75
Rnd3
Edgerrin Cooper
They will replay Edgerrin Cooper at the 75th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick78
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in slot 78 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick140
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
By-the-book stuff, Mason McCormick at pick No. 140 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick181
Rnd6
Drake Nugent
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Drake Nugent. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
