Draft Grade — Commanders

The Commanders drew a line under the quarterback search with Maye: B-. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In the 2nd pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at pick No. 36 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick40
Rnd2
Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter in Round 2, Pick 8 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick67
Rnd3
Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker in slot 67 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick100
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zak Zinter. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
