kauffyk22 DRAFTING FOR THECommanders
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Commanders bet the future on Williams. The board says B-. Start where it matters. The Commanders took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The Nugent pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caleb Williams. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick36
Rnd2
Byron Murphy II
A straight-up fair deal on Byron Murphy II at slot 36, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick40
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton at the 40th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick67
Rnd3
Junior Colson
They went early on Junior Colson in pick 67, and the value did not follow. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick100
Rnd3
Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent at No. 100 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick102
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in pick No. 102 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick141
Rnd5
Jaheim Bell
They took Jaheim Bell at par in the 141st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick181
Rnd6
Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett at Round 6, Pick 6 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jase McClellan
Fair-plus on Jase McClellan, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
