Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA FutureB-
The Commanders checked most of the boxes and earned a B.

Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Commanders never addressed tight end, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.

Getting Haulcy where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Height has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Colton Hood
In No. 28 they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick30 Rnd1 Romello Height
In slot 30 they get a problem off the edge, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 CJ Allen
CJ Allen at the 38th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick71 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy at pick 71 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick108 Rnd4 Caden Curry
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caden Curry. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick145 Rnd5 Aaron Graves
By-the-book stuff, Aaron Graves at Round 5, Pick 7 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick185 Rnd6 DJ Harvey
They took DJ Harvey at par in pick No. 185, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick196 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
No edge and no loss on Trey Zuhn III in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick223 Rnd7 J. Michael Sturdivant
Good price on J. Michael Sturdivant in the 223rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
