Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A passer of the future in Williams, and a B, for the Commanders.

The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development.

If Nourzad pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Sanders.

They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson in the 36th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick40 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
A straight-up fair deal on T.J. Tampa at Round 2, Pick 8, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick67 Rnd3 Ja'Tavion Sanders
The board had Ja'Tavion Sanders higher than pick No. 67, and the tight end fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick101 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
No edge and no loss on Blake Fisher in slot 101; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick113 Rnd4 Tyrice Knight
They took Tyrice Knight at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick138 Rnd5 Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki in the 138th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick147 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
A reasonable price with a little left over, Luke McCaffrey in No. 147. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick181 Rnd6 Javon Baker
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Baker. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick220 Rnd6 Hunter Nourzad
Hunter Nourzad at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
