Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Commanders let Corum fall and pounced. Final grade: A-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Blake Corum slide 32 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and interior defensive lineman still on the board.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In pick 10 they get a building block for the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton in the 36th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick37 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson at Round 2, Pick 5 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick40 Rnd2 Bralen Trice
Nothing to complain about; Bralen Trice went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick47 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jackson Powers-Johnson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick67 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
They went early on Cooper Beebe in No. 67, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick100 Rnd3 Cade Stover
A want over a need in the 100th overall pick: Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE while quarterback and interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
Pick102 Rnd4 Roman Wilson
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Roman Wilson in slot 102, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick105 Rnd4 Blake Corum
A running back of that caliber at slot 105 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick141 Rnd5 James Williams
James Williams in the 141st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick142 Rnd5 Max Melton
Max Melton in the 142nd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick181 Rnd6 McCallan Castles
Taking McCallan Castles in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
